Two Brothers Hike in Rio

The Two Brothers Hike is the perfect little trek to satisfy your wanderlust in Rio. Concurrently, it’s also a great hiking tour to discover the socio-cultural side of the Marvelous City. Firstly, you can choose either the 8:00 am or 2:00 pm pickup option or join us at the meeting point. Meanwhile, we usually recommend starting at 7:00 am during summer so that we’re able to chiefly avoid the heat.

This experience takes us through a picturesque trail that winds through the vibrant Favela do Vidigal. Vidigal is a flourishing pacified favela neighborhood with an intriguing history located on the Dois Irmãos hillside. In 1886, the land was originally sold to Engineer João Dantas. He had intentions to build a train line that would go to the south of Rio. However, the project didn’t take place and the first houses in Vidigal were built in 1941.

To begin with, the tour will start with a moto taxi ride or kombi ride to the location where the trail commences. The hike takes slightly less than 1 hour one-way with an easy to moderate distance of 1,5km / 1 mile. At length, your guide will tell you the marvelous story of the favela and key history info as you go. Undoubtedly, we can guarantee a lovely, unforgettable hike in the tropical rainforest where fauna such as monkeys can be seen. This will feature breezy exhilaration and momentous stops and photo-taking through the lively trail.

By and large, the best part is the spectacular views that we get to see along the way. Furthermore, the post-card views get even more out of this world as you get to the top of the mountain. Along the way, you’ll sight the grand Rocinha favela as well as famous mountains, including Pedra da Gavea, Pedra Bonita, Corcovado, and Sugarloaf.

The View

At the 539-meter height of the summit, you can spot famous beaches in Rio including Ipanema, Copacabana, and many others. You’ll also get a few golden glimpses of the largest urban rainforest on the planet, the Tijuca Forest.

After taking some time to enjoy the summit of the Dois Irmãos Mountain, we’ll then make our descent. Once finishing the trail, we’ll descend the favela on foot. You’ll get to see a different side of Rio that is culturally rich with immersion far away from cliches. The experience is certainly one of both wonderful relaxation and immense fun! At the end of it, those who chose the pickup option will be dropped off at their address by 12:00 pm OR 6:00 pm.
